On April 2nd, the lives of the Clare family changed forever. While traveling from Leesburg to Baltimore for an outing with little 10-year-old MacKenzie's Junior Girl Scout troop, a pickup truck crossed the median on I-70, flipped, and landed on top of the Clare family's Chevy Malibu. Little MacKenzie was injured the worst, and is now paralyzed from the chest down due to a spinal cord injury. Here's part of an e-mail that I received from a member of the moms' group at my church, who has a little girl in the same school that MacKenzie attends:
The Dad's injuries are just as bad as MacKenzie's. He broke his hip and then got an infection in that same hip. He had numerous other internal injuries as the car that hit them landed upside down on his side of the car. His spirits are not real great either, though he has just recently been able to see MaczKenzie b/c he was released from the hosp. to live in a McDonald House type facility near her hosp. Lisa, the mom, has her own injuries too, shattered kneecap and lots of bruising. They have only just realized that she broke several fingers in the crash! When people come in with the type and number of injuries that they had fingers get lost in the shuffle. She will be seeing an ortho. soon to see what to do.
Lisa, has asked for prayer for some BIG decisions they have to make. They have a townhouse (ie STAIRS) so will have to move somwhere. They are not sure where MacKenzie will be getting rehab since there aren't great ped. Facilites around here. So they move temporarliy to MD to be closer the facilites there. Mark is not sure when he will be able to return to work and they've got insurance decisions and problems to prepare for.
Please help the family with their immediate financial needs of buying a handicap-equipped van before
MacKenzie is released from the hospital in late June. Here is a link which provides several options,

There is no investment required, training and supplies are provided. Must have deep compassion for the elderly, have a computer, fax, telephone, sales experience (helpful)and own transportation.
